#5 Vet in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire
Garden Vets at Keele describes itself as a veterinary teaching hospital partnered with the Harper & Keele Vet School, using a “state-of-the-art” facility and involving vet students in consultations under supervision. The practice also promotes subscription plans intended to “take financial considerations out of the treatment conversation.”
From the latest reviews, experiences split into two clear camps: many owners describe thorough discussions of options (including in complex, ongoing cases), while several recent reviewers report serious difficulty contacting the practice (phones continually engaged, promised call-backs not happening) and problems getting appointments. Emergency cases and out-of-hours care are repeatedly mentioned—both as a reason some routine appointments get delayed, and as a strength when pets need urgent help.
Concrete examples mentioned by owners include emergency appointments being offered immediately, dental work (tooth removal and a scale/clean), and ongoing management of conditions like pancreatitis and lymphoma.

My animals are registered with these vets and have subscriptions. Ordered tablets for dogs a week ago but have had no response. Supposedly 24 hour service but have been trying for days to contact them. The phone number given is continually engaged and the website is not responding. Have they gone out of business?

If I could give zero stars would!! Absolutely atrocious service. No one answers phones, no call back service is ever followed up ,good luck getting an appointment of any type!! They have removed the reviews from their Facebook page, what does that tell you? They have too many patients for the amount of staff they have, and are still wanting more... Everytime you speak to someone they are dealing with an " Emergency" which is why there are no appointments or no vet to speak to, I've sat in that waiting room for well over an hour and people have just turned up with " emergencies" because NO-ONE has answered a phone. We had a dog on palliative care( that in itself was a nightmare when I needed to speak to someone, I'd wait weeks.. we ended up getting in the car and sitting in the waiting room AGAIN) the thought of him spending his last minutes there filled me with absolute horror.. I stopped paying the subscription!! Dare let them come after me for payments!! They broke the contract way before I did by not providing a service that was promised... Our original vets came out to our home to put our boy to rest in his own home in mine and my husbands arms... Please please go sit in the waiting room and ask people's opinions before you sign up!!!!! I wouldnt wish this service on anyone.

I can not express highly enough how kind these people are. Unfortunately I have lost my beautiful boy, but the care and compassion at such a difficult time was outstanding.. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Garden Vets. They are extremely professional, but understand that your pet is also your family. It's so nice to know that we actually have people who genuinely care about our beautiful pets.. Thank you to you all. You do an amazing job and it certainly stands out.

We have always had a fantastic experience with Garden Vets, but saw Emily Castle for our 5-month old golden retrievers check up and typing this within an hour of leaving. Emily was absolutely brilliant! She was thorough, exceptional listener, and gave our little man as much love as we do. She also had a student with her and is clearly a great mentor. We have booked our next appointment for a few months time with her. Emily will make a fantastic vet once she finishes with Keele University!

Fantastic vets with a fantastic service. From walking in the door to leaving the place, every member of staff is amazing. I have had two very poorly cats treated here, one for pancreatitis, and the other has ongoing treatment for lymphoma. The care has been second to none, with every vet having the time to discuss all available options and not rush through appointments like at the corporate one they were at previously. Final year student vets also help out with all discussions being monitored/overseen by a qualified vet. The monthly subscription service is great for one pet, giving you complete piece of mind for any and pretty much all treatment that could be needed. It could get pricey if you have multiple older pets, but for the service provided, it is worth every penny. I have had two emergency situations with pets since being registered, and both times were invited straight up to the hospital for consultation and ultimately treatment. Emergencies can sometimes cause slight delays in appointment types, but having been through the emergency process, you can really appreciate the work being done and flexibility of that work. Update 17th July 2025 Sadly, we lost our Sammi-Deane in January this year, and yet again, the team was amazing throughout. Nothing was rushed. Everything was explained, and we are so thankful that they helped him for so long. We had another issue the last few days ago with one of our cats who was bitten. The care from the 8pm emergency appt on a Saturday night, to the repeat appt the following Thursday (Today) were again second to none. We saw Andy and a 5th year vetinary student, and both were thorough in their explanations and again did not rush to explain everything. Thanks for everything again team!

To Garden Vets at Keele, We would like to express our immense gratitude to the members of staff that treated our beloved Boxer Eric on Sunday evening (16/3/25 ) It was an out of hours emergency and although we weren't registered with Garden Vets they saw us immediately. We would especially like to thank Sarah the Vet, The Vet Nurse and Vet Student. We will never beable to thank them enough for the care that Eric received and their calm, competent professionalism. OUTSTANDING. We know Eric is at peace and we thank you so much for caring for us all. We only have positive memories and that is all due to you all. With deepest regards From Maria, Paul and Adam
